FAQ - Litigation Funding

What is a legal project?

Legal projects involve measures and actions that do not have a financial claim as their primary objective. The goal of a legal project is to work towards clarifying or changing the legal situation and can relate to a public or private law topic that is of significance beyond the individual case. The project character results from the fact that the change in the legal situation can be worked towards by means of a legal dispute, but that supplementary measures or actions can also be made, such as a media campaign or a publication in the specialist literature. Possible are also legal projects that completely dispense with the element of litigation. Sponsors who are interested in clarifying the issue can support the person concerned in his (legal) action with their sponsorship.

The trustee of a legal project monitors the use of funds to ensure that the sponsorship is used for the purpose defined by the person concerned.
